Self-hosting gives you complete control, along with complete responsibility: if the server isn't backed up, nobody else has a copy. Hosted FamHQ is less work, and your data is stored with the providers named in our privacy policy, under a promise that we'll never sell it or use it for ads. Either way, you can switch later and bring your household with you.
